Undrallu - savoury balls made from rice ravva and chana dal; are prepared as naivedyam for Vinayaka Chavithi (Ganesh Chaturthi) along with kudumulu (modak). This is the major festival in south Indian states like Andhra, Karnataka, Tamilnadu and also in Maharashtra. Celebrations differ from state to state. It is very easy to prepare and absolutely healthy as undrallu are steamed.
Ingredients
Rice Ravva (Semolina): 1 cup
Water: 2 cups
Chana Dal: 2 tablespoons; soak in water for 10 minutes
Salt: as per taste
Cumin Seeds: 1/4 teaspoon
Ghee: 1 tablespoon
Instructions
1. Heat ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds and saute for few seconds.
2. Add soaked chana dal and fry the dal for few seconds. Add water, salt and bring to boil.
3. Add rice ravva and stir continuously to avoid forming of lumps. Cook for 5 minutes on medium flame. Remove from heat and cool.
4. Make big lemon sized balls of the cooked mixture. Transfer the balls into a steamer and cook on medium flame for 10 minutes. Undrallu are ready to be offered as naivedyam to Lord Vinayaka.
